Drawversity

Drawversity is a life model class that focuses on introducing more BIPOC to the world of life modelling. During the session a new model will pose for the group, choosing their own pose lengths, guided and supported by Jade. The session is open to all abilities & levels of experience and Jade will be on hand to offer any help you need. 

Drawversity can also be catered to pop-up events and workshops for small festivals and other collaborative projects, if you would like for me to run a Drawversity class with you, please contact me.

Drawversity been running sessions at the yoga and wellness studio in Hove – Fine Feather Wellness, since January 2024.

At this untutored life drawing session, we welcome everybody and anybody to come and draw! with short poses ranging from 3-45 minutes in length; Drawversity’s aim is to create a safe environment in which the model’s comfort is paramount. Please arrive at 6:45 for a 7pm start.

If you have attended Drawversity at this location before, please note the studios new address; 8 Third Avenue, Hove, BN3 2PX. Find the entrance down a set of stairs just to the left of Oeuf Hove.

Basic materials will be supplied, Paper, boards, clips, pencils, erasers, and some colours in different mediums. If you want spcialised paper or have your own sketchbooks please bring your own materials.

We’ll have specially curated music playing during the session and a short break halfway through for refreshments. The session is open to all abilities & levels of experience and Jade will be on hand to offer any help you need; as this is a drop-in session, you can book ahead or arrive on the day.

Drawversity was created to introduce BIPOC communities to life art — and to support everyone involved in making those spaces feel thoughtful, professional and welcoming. I have spent the last month writing up intimate, vivid blogs on my time at Draw, the place where it all started! My creative home when I became self-employed, my sanctuary, my Life Model origin story. Right up until the very last session which I was honoured to model. The whole experience in my own words and pictures. We have Drawversity THIS WEEK in hove at @finefeather.wellness Thursday 7-9pm Doing the research for this particular article, was actually really hard, I even asked my ESEA life model counterparts and they were stumped for historical ESEA models in Fine Art. And then I found this ‘Little Flower’ Hanako, a geisha who modelled for the sculpture artist; Auguste Rodin. Researching the current photographer Pixy and her partner and muse Moro was really interesting, it was fun to find a modern muse in a project that has been celebrated on a global scale.There are so many layers and emotions that ring through the project ‘Experimental Relationship’. The photos sing to different notes of what it is to be in an unconventional relationship, and are really fun images! Xi Shi was one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, known for her beauty and her role in a historical narrative. She is often depicted in art as a symbol of beauty and grace. Xi Shi’s story is full of intrigue, love, tragedy and an ending unknown, poets throughout history have literary and literally debated her story in their writings, what do you think happened to Xi Shi and the King of Wu?
